Book of the week: The Bro Code

Everyone’s life is governed by an internal code of conduct. Some call it morality. Others call it religion. But Bros in the know call this holy grail the Bro Code.

Historically a spoken tradition passed from one generation to the next, the officail code of conduct for Bros appears here in its pushlied form for the first time ever. By upholding the tenets of this sacred and legendary documents, any dude can learn to achieve Bro-dom.

Barney Stinson, self-proclaimed best bro ever and star of How I Met Your Mother and Matt Kuhn give us a book that’s filled with awesomeness all over. Aimed at Bros and wingmen around the world, The Bro Code is a guide to being the best Bro you possibly can. Here are some excerpts:

Article 3: If a Bro gets a dog, it must be at least as tall as his knee when full-grown.

Article 44: A Bro never applies sunscreen to another Bro.

Article 47: A bro never wears pink. Not even in Europe.

Article 60: A Bro shall honour thy father and mother, for they were once Bro and Chick. However, a Bro never thinks of them in that capacity.

Article 77: Bros don’t cuddle.

Article 78: A Bro shall never rack jack his wingman

Article 94: If a Bro is in the bathroom and runs out of toilet paper, another Bro may toss him a new roll, but at no point may their hands touch or the door open more than 30 degrees.

Article 99: A Bro never asks for directions when lost.

Adidas unveils football’s official fragrance

It was almost inevitable that this summer’s World Cup Finals in South Africa, a competition that has sold off almost every nook and cranny of its being to sponsors, would get its own ’signature scent’.

Well here it is.

Adidas’ Pure Game is “bold and unexpected fragrance that perfectly represents the spirit of diversity in unity” and is “the result of a harmonious blend of natural ingredients found throughout the Rainbow Nation’s diverse countryside”. Absolutely. And there’s us thinking it would smell of sweat and overpriced cans of warm beer. Actually, we’ll just had a sniff and it is rather nice, although not quite as “unexpected” as we were hoping for.

Vanilla Ice is coming to Dubai

It may be two decades since his most famous hit, but there’s not a single person on the planet who can’t hum the chorus to Ice Ice Baby (ok, kids might not be able to, but who cares about them anyway?).

Vanilla Ice, or Rob Van Winkle to his mum, is now 42 years old, and unlikely to be ‘cooking MCs like a pound of bacon’ or hanging out with ‘rockman lovers driving Lamborghinis’. Actually, his last four albums failed to chart and his film career hasn’t really gone anywhere since his debut in 1992’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

In any case, he heading over here and you know you’re going to be at Barasti on March 31. Oh, and just to ensure an entire blanket of 80s excess, SNAP! will be performing too.

A staple across the Dubai brunch and polo scene, the Fred Perry polo shirt has been keeping expats covered (at the top half any way) for some time. And now, just when you thought you had enough polos, here comes the new Spring Summer collection. Despite the polos heritage (apparently Caesar was a big fan), the new range uses 21st century fabrications, with new linen/cotton mixes and laser cut polka dots. In stores now (we think).
